Purpose of SDCTM

The purpose of the South Dakota Council of Teachers of Mathematics is to encourage and maintain an active interest in and an appreciation of mathematics, promote professional growth of mathematics educators, to provide a forum for the exchange of views regarding the teaching of mathematics, to develop a cohesive link between and to promote the cooperative study of mathematics education at all levels, to integrate the study of mathematics into other areas of school curriculum, and to relate the study of mathematics to situations in life.
We host a conference each February to help achieve the aforementioned goals.  We provide support for South Dakota mathematics teachers, connect them to each other, and act as a clearinghouse for information regarding mathematics and mathematics education.
We act individually and collectively as consultants for school districts and for the Department of Education. SDCTM represents member concerns with Department of Education policies and actions.

In Appreciation

On behalf of the mathematics educators of the state of South Dakota, SDCTM thanks Midcontinent Communications for its assistance to education.  Their generous offer to host the official website of the South Dakota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (SDCTM) is very much appreciated.  With the help of Midcontinent, we are able to communicate with our statewide network of teachers much more effectively as we seek to improve mathematics education for all students

While everyone agrees that education is important, not everyone is willing to “put their money where their mouth is.”  Midcontinent has set a fine example of civic responsibility by supporting education in this way.  Students and educators at all levels benefit from this generosity.  Thank you very much!
