Two levels of practice problems are also a part of this program. Options are shown at the bottom of each screen. To choose an option, press the key on the top row of the calculator that is below the option. The top rows of keys are called the soft keys. The program is very user friendly. To quit the application, go to the main menu and choose quit. CtlHelp This application allows the user to get help when using various math functions. When this application is running, the user may choose a math function and press + instead of ENTER and the calculator will show the arguments and syntax needed to enter the function. Example: What is the syntax needed to perform the randInt( function? EMBED Equation.DSMT4 Note that the [ ] around Numtrials means that that part of the function entry is optional. To quit the application press APPS . Choose CtlgHelp. Choose Quit CtlgHelp. Important Note: Always quit an application before moving to another application or when you are finished using the application. Prob Sim This is an excellent program for simulating probability problems. The simulation program simulates activities that are usually used in the study of probability. The program works well for elementary and advanced activities. Press Apps and choose Prob Sim. If you are running the Random Numbers simulation and you are in a class situation where more than one calculator is used, you should SEED the random numbers so all of the calculators are not generating the same set of random numbers. This can be done by choosing OPTN from the bottom of the Simulation menu. When in this menu, press the ZOOM key for OPTN. Have every calculator use a different integer for the SEED and each calculator will produce different sets of random integers. The program is very user friendly and easy to quit. Inequalz This is a very useful program for graphing inequalities in two variables. It is especially useful when students are solving linear programming problems. The program menus are driven with the use of the soft keys. The soft keys are the five keys located in the top row of the calculator. To use the soft keys in this program one must press the ALPHA key first to access any of the options located at the bottom of the screen. In other words, the soft keys in this application correspond to the F keys. An important aspect to using this program is knowing how to quit the program. It can be very frustrating if one does not know how to exit the program. To quit the program you must press the APPS key and then arrow down to Inequalz and then press ENTER and then choose Quit Inequal. Transfrm The Transfrm application is useful when exploring how the parameters of an equation affect the graph of the equation. The program has some limitations. For example, if you wish to explore how the parameters of the equation EMBED Equation.DSMT4 affect the graph of the equation, you may use only the alphabetical characters A D. The equation then could be entered as. EMBED Equation.DSMT4 Example: Press Y= and enter Y1=Ax + B Press GRAPH Press the EMBED Equation.DSMT4 keys (right or left arrow keys) This changes the coefficient A and displays the corresponding graph. To observe how the coefficient B changes the graph, press the EMBED Equation.DSMT4 key to highlight the = sign on the second parameter and press ENTER. Press EMBED Equation.DSMT4 to change the B value. Press the WINDOW key. Select the SETTINGS option at the top of this window. The first line of the Settings editor contains the symbols for the three play types: Play-Pause EMBED Equation.DSMT4 . Use the arrow keys to select the type and then press ENTER. If you choose EMBED Equation.DSMT4 , then you use the left and right arrow keys to change the coefficients. The graph changes as the coefficients change. Note that only the coefficient with the highlighted = sign changes. To select a different coefficient, you must use the arrow keys to highlight the respective = sign and the press ENTER. To change your settings, press WINDOW and highlight SETTINGS. If you choose EMBED Equation.DSMT4 you must give your highlighted coefficient an initial value and your desired final value must be entered into Max. The Step option in this window indicates the increment of change as the coefficient increases from its initial value to its Max value. Press GRAPH to observe how the graph changes as the coefficient changes. Press ENTER to stop the graphing and press WINDOW to change any setting. Press 2ND ZOOM and change the format setting to TrailOn. This will allow you to view all of the transformed graphs at the same time. Important Note: It is very important that one knows how to exit this program. To quit this program, proceed as follows: Press APPS , Choose Transfrm and then select Uninstall. Five-Minute Filler Wind Chill Formula The following formula is a revised formula as determined by the National Weather Service In the formula T represents the actual temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. V represents the wind speed in miles per hour. Tc is the calculated wind chill in degrees Fahrenheit. EMBED Equation.DSMT4 A method for determining wind chill using the TI graphing calculator: Press Y= and arrow down to Y0. Enter EMBED Equation.DSMT4 Place the cursor on the = sign following Y0 and press ENTER. This deselects the function so the calculator does not try to graph it. If the function is not deselected, then problems will occur when graphing other functions. Now consider the following example: What is the wind chill when the temperature is EMBED Equation.DSMT4 and the wind speed is 25 mph? Go to the home screen by pressing 2nd MODE . Press the following keys: 1 0 STO ALPHA 4 ENTER 2 5 STO ALPHA 6 ENTER VARS EMBED Equation.DSMT4 ENTER 0 ENTER . Wind chill is EMBED Equation.DSMT4 . The formula may be left in the calculator until Y0 is needed for another purpose. Periodic APP Allows the user to access information from the periodic table of the elements. This is a very convenient application for use in science classesmaybe a little bit too convenient! (Talk to your science department) Use the cursor arrows to navigate to an element. Press enter to display information on the properties of the element. Use the soft keys (top row) to select what function you would like to access. Press the TRACE key [TBL] to return to the table. Press the ZOOM key [LIST] to display the elements arranged by atomic number. Press the ZOOM key again [SORT] to sort by number, name, or symbol. Press TRACE [TBL] to return to the periodic table home screen. Enter the options menu by pressing the WINDOW key [OPTIONS]. You have several selections available. The EXPORT option saves the selected information into a list, which may be plotted into a graph. Use the GRAPH key [QUIT] to escape from the program.
